Nokia to launch new phone

Nokia launches the 7110 GSM phone next month. It is the first mobile to offer Internet access using Wireless Application Protocol technology.

It was designed by Nokia chief designer Frank Nuovo and can dial up an Internet connection, then download selected text to its display screen.

Networks such as Orange plan to offer services including entertainment, news, travel, sport and business updates from its own Internet portals.

A ‘Navi Roller button’ lets users scroll menus and text messages can be typed in using the keypad. An Orange spokesman says: ‘It will retail for about £150, and for the first six months we will be charging very little to encourage people to use them.’
