Syringe picks up Scottish award

A safety syringe designed by New Medical Technology Group has scooped the Design Grand Prix at this year’s Scottish Design and Architecture Awards, which took place last week in Glasgow.

The judging panel, chaired by Studio Mariscal founder Javier Mariscal, selected Tank design director Stuart Gilmour as Scottish Designer of the Year.

The judges presented the Chairman’s Award for Design to design consultancy Lucy Richards for its work on the Pocketbooks series, which won the publications category. Founder Lucy Richards also picked up the award Best Use of Typography for the book series.

Pentagram partner Angus Hyland was commended in the publications category for Canongate Books’ The Devil’s Cup, as was Locofoco’s work for Scottish Enterprise: Desire Delight Design. Locofoco’s Keith Dodds won the award for Young Designer of the Year.

The corporate literature design category was won by Newton.eh6 for its work for the Edinburgh College of Art, and the annual report award was presented to Graphic Partners for its Scottish Ambulance Service book.

Pentagram partner John Rushworth and 999 were both awarded the corporate identity prize, for The Waterways Trust and 999 respectively.
