Rover Group is investing ú25m in a new design and engineering centre which will speed up production by taking a year off the design process.

Rover says the centre at Gaydon in Warwickshire will provide “the most advanced automotive design facility in the UK”. Due for completion in 1997, the building is being designed by Birmingham-based Weedon Architects. Interior designers may be appointed.

“This centre is a physical manifestation of our philosophy of team building. Our design and engineering facilities will be next door to each other,” says Rover spokesman Simon Maris.

“The design of the centre will have to be very flexible to reflect how we work,” adds Rover spokesman Brian Johns.
