Spencer Landor gives a hand to the nurses

London group Spencer Landor has refreshed the identity for professional body The Royal College of Nursing to make it more modern and easier to reproduce.

The previous logo was designed by Pentagram in 1984.

“The interlocking hands logo was well known by the public and much loved by its members… But the image looked dated and did not reproduce effectively across the RCN’s range of literature,” says Spencer Landor creative partner John Spencer.

The resulting identity sports a bigger name, a new typeface and longer, more human, fingers.

The identity is about to roll out across the body’s range of literature, signage and stationery.
