DIY boom is due to display, says Verdict

Verdict Research has attributed a boom in the DIY and gardening market to “methods of display” and “formats” among leading retailers.

The market research group has forecast a 6.3 per cent rise in sales for the sector this year, with this figure expected to rise by another 6.7 per cent next year. This compares to 3.3 per cent for all retail sectors this year.

B&Q, Homebase, Focus Do It All, Wickes and Great Mills are named as the five major players in the sector.

“B&Q is by far the largest player, accounting for 20 per cent of the market and growing fast. In Warehouse it has a format which few can match in terms of price and authority and there remains plenty of room for further expansion,” says Verdict’s research.
