Oby1 outdoor furniture

Bear Factory Design was also commissioned by British Polythene Industries to produce a concept for outdoor furniture using the recycled plastic material Plaswood, made from low-density polythene waste.

Jules Goss of Bear Factory Design developed Oby1, a prototype bench using a fabricated steel subframe which is hot dipped galvanised, implementing the Plaswood as the seating surface. This design addresses some of the difficulties in the material such as deformation and vulnerability to vandalism. Goss teaches product design at the Glasgow College of Building and Printing. He gained a degree in sculpture from Grays in Aberdeen and has worked with Ron Arad in the One Off studios making furniture.
