Siemens developing prototype phones

Siemens’ design team in Germany is developing a number of prototype phones with Internet and video capability, for the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System platform.

‘UMTS aims to replace GSM technology as the standard for mobile telecoms in two or three years’ time,’ says a spokesman for the group.

Siemens head of design Ulrich Skrypalle has led development of the Siemens SX45 phones, which will go into production in two or three years’ time.
