Scottish inspiration for HSBC identity

Thank you for including our HSBC corporate identity in your pull-out compilation of international identities.

While the strength of the non-verbal hexagon symbol allows it to be interpreted in many ways, it is a geometric rendering inspired by the bank’s red hourglass on a white flag.

As with many of the 19th century Hong Kong houses, that flag was based on the St Andrew’s cross of the Scottish flag.
