‘Natural’ Miyake store by Stanton Williams

Japanese clothing designer Issey Miyake is to open a new “natural and invigorating” UK flagship store in London’s Conduit Street.

The shop, designed by architect Stanton Williams will open in November. It will stock lines from the designer’s collections for men and women, plus a full range of perfumes.

German artist and lighting designer Ingo Maurer has been commissioned to create a lighting installation for the 325sqm outlet.

“We are going back to nature and creating something really light, airy and colourful,” says an Issey Miyake spokeswoman. “The shop should be a happy and uplifting environment. We hope people will be inspired to go inside when they are walking past.”

Stanton Williams partner Paul Williams, who has worked on several Issey Miyake projects over the past ten years, describes the Japanese designer as “inspirational”. “He is a joy to work with, but at the same time extremely challenging. Hopefully, this space will be an appropriate backdrop for the changing collections – a space to be enjoyed and to entice people in,” he says.
