Raymond Lemstra’s Big Mother
Big Mother 4, the latest in publisher Nobrow’s large-format series of illustrator monographs, is a Big… well, it’s a very large book.
The aim of the A2-format Big Mother series is to allow artists and illustrators plenty of room to create expansive, detailed work.
The work of Dutch illustrator Raymond Lemstra – the subject of Big Mother 4 – fits this format perfectly.
Lemstra’s work focuses on human faces and forms – turning them intro tribal or abstract reproductions. His work demonstrates skill, detail and a rather unsettling imagination.
Lemstra says, ‘I try to bring back the sense of wonder we remember from being a child, bridging the young and mature, by creating a contained fantasy world populated by my characters.’
Big Mother 4 – Raymond Lemstra, is published by Nobrow priced at £18.
