Graven Images has designed the interiors for the second Hotel Missoni, which will open in Kuwait next month.

Graven Images has been working on the project for about four years, having been appointed without a pitch to implement the concepts developed by Matteo Thun with Rosita Missoni for the Hotel Missoni in Edinburgh.

The consultancy worked directly with Missoni, The Rezidor Hotel Group and Kuwaiti developer CRC on the project, and is currently working with Michael Graves Architects on another Hotel Missoni in Oman.

Ross Hunter, director of Graven Images, says, ‘The finishes are quite unusual in lots of ways, especially some of the colour combinations.’

Hunter says that the interiors use a ‘bright and colourful palette’, using materials including brass and gold.

He adds, ‘We always try to make a connection between architecture and a graphic approach – we’ve never been afraid of colour and texture and a quite iconoclastic approach to how you make interiors work.

‘Our approach is quite different from the mainstream – I can’t think of any other hotels using those colour and material combinations – that’s what makes it a really exciting project to work on.’
