Seven Dials exhibition celebrates London’s ‘cultural quarters’

The Culture Quarter Programme and arts website www.artistsandmakers.com have launched a temporary exhibition in London’s Seven Dials to celebrate the capital’s ‘cultural quarters’.

The Culture Quarter Programme is a collaboration between nine arts organisations, including the Design Council, the Victoria & Albert Museum and Somerset House, which are offering six-month work placements to 34 unemployed young people to help them gain experience in the cultural sector.

The exhibition, which runs at 18 Shorts Gardens until 23 July, has been created by the placement participants under the mentorship of the Culture Quarter Programme partners. It includes audio tour podcasts, short videos and exhibition material exploring the history of the Seven Dials and the links between the programme partners.

Dan Thompson, one of the organisers behind www.artistsandmakers.com, says, ‘Our mission is to take art and culture to the high street, using shops and empty spaces as places for experimentation and exploration.’
