Design duo Raw Edges (Yael Mer and Shay Alkala) has created this brilliant new piece Bloom, which was commissioned by the British Council with the aim of engaging international audiences with British design and literature.
The piece combines the function of room divider, loom and bookshelf to create a clever installation.
Bloom’s wooden frame uses string book supports to allow the books to become part of the piece, meaning that its appearance changes depending on the reading habits of the user.
Bloom is debuting at Milan Furniture Fair’s MOST space this week, and will then return to London to present the works of Granta Magazine’s eighty Best Young British Novelists shortlist. The winner is to be announced on April 15.
Bloom will then be shown at Clerkenwell Design Week, before setting off on a globetrotting tour visiting countries including Russia, Qatar and India.
