D&AD New Blood

D&AD’s New Blood 2012 show is running until 28 June, showing work from some of the top students from around the UK.

This year there are 90 stands on display, in the New Blood venue at London’s Old Spitalfields Market, with work ranging from branding and graphics and illustration to interactive and advertising.

Here’s a small selection of some of the work that caught my eye (disclaimer, I was one of this year’s Best of New Blood judges).

There was some really strong work from Southampton Solent University this year. Carlie McGarity created these futuristic illustrations:

And Robert Baughan developed this branding project for the imaginary ‘Emergency Management Resource Group’ a fictitious body that would take charge in emergency situations…

Jack Johnson created this cool illustrated poster as well as an excellent editorial design project about burlesque.

As well as the graphics, Southampton Solent excelled with their illustration stand – which was very well curated and features some intriguing work.

Kirsty Turpie from the University of Dundee designed this brilliantly playful editorial project, which tells the story of The Waitress through some inventive type and text treatments – a rewarding read.

I liked this Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy illustration from Stacey Knights of Norwich University:

And these illustrations by Sam Brooks at Falmouth.

And the University of the West of England had one of the best overall stands, with a collection of strong wall-mounted work (such as the 3D map illustrating the different languages spoken in Africa) and lots of printed work to pick up and flick through.
