Steph von Reiswitz’s haunted world
This pictorial ink work from illustrator Steph von Reiswitz accompanies a narrative also penned by the artist assuming the disappearance of a mansion owner.
With a nod to the fin-de-siècle the stage is set for private investigator Niobe Axe to look at hauntings amidst the decadent shambles of a house gone to seed.
The style perhaps owes something to the spirit of Sir John Tennial’s Alice In Wonderland illustrations.
In fact this is begging to be made into a children’s book, but as it stands it will be an exhibition entitled The Stone Raspberry.
The ghostly pallor of Reiswitz’s characters, including lewd maids and a drunk gardener, are offset by a murky backdrop of grey dereliction.
Meanwhile Postcards From Hell, by the same artist will be exhibited alongside, and imagine in the most literal way, postcards from hell. Devilry and tourism abound in a world of primary colours.
The Stone Raspberry runs from 16 November – 1 December at Material, 3 Rivington Street, EC2.
