2010 Deutsche Börse prize shortlist unveiled

The Photographers’ Gallery has unveiled the shortlist for this year’s Deutsche Börse Photography Prize.

The annual award, worth £30 000, goes to an artist who has made a significant contribution to European photography.

The four shortlisted photographers are Anna Fox and Donovan Wylie, both British, Zoe Leonard, from the US, and Sophie Ristelhueber, from France.

Fox has been nominated for her exhibition Cockroach Diaries & Other Stories, Wylie for his show Maze 2007/8, and Leonard and Ristelhueber for their respective retrospectives.

An exhibition of all four artists’ work will go on show at The Photographers’ Gallery in central London from 12 February to 18 April 2010. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony on 17 March.

Brett Rogers, chair of the jury and director of The Photographers’ Gallery, says, ‘The four finalists all manifest a sustained commitment to investigating the nature and role of the photographic image.

‘Each of them, in their own way, explores pertinent ideas around gender, nationality, surveillance and political conflict.’
