Dutch designer Marcel Wanders has created a Christmas product range for Marks & Spencer, in the store’s first collaboration with a designer across more than one product range.

Wanders has created over 150 gifts, including home wares, Christmas decorations, men’s and women’s accessories, cakes and confectionary and cosmetics. These will be sold in 60 stores from 12 October, including London’s Marble Arch and Westfield Stratford branches.

A Marks & Spencer spokeswoman says Wanders was brought in about a year ago by Marks & Spencer chief executive Marc Bolland. She says,  ‘His brief was to create something for Christmas that was very different with real “wow”.’

Wanders has also designed the ‘shop within a shop’ areas where the range will be sold, which will feature a red and white traditional Christmas colour palette, with added black and gold. Black cabinets will display the products, with dinnerware placed on bespoke black tables.

Bolland says, ‘Marcel Wanders is an internationally acclaimed designer and I’ve long admired his original and cutting edge approach to design.’

Wanders adds, ‘I wanted to create a new collection of personal objects from my heart to you. Design allows us to reach out and inspire and I am so pleased M&S have joined me in my quest to make beautiful design accessible for everyone.’

The spokeswoman says the store’s relationship with Wanders is ongoing, and that there are other collections planned throughout 2012.
