Gratuitous typgraphic smut
When we read the words “typographic smut”, we knew this forthcoming east London show would be one for us.
The letter-based naughtiness is the subject of a new exhibition at KK Outlet, Gratuitous Type, showing work from a pamphlet of the same name which “offers a voyeuristic look into the practices of some of today’s most exciting contemporary graphic designers and artists”, according to the gallery.
This marks the release of the fourth issue of Gratuitous Type since it was founded in 2010, cheekily named Peep Show.
The publication is brought to life for the show through prints, installations and interactive projects to peruse, showing work by international designers and artists including Emmet Byrne of the Walker Art Center in the US, Claire Huss, Kokoro & Moi, Tim Lahan, Table of Contents (US), and Dries Wiewauters (BE).
Rotterdam-based open-source design studio Letterproeftuin also has featured work, and will be appearing at the gallery to produce a limited-edition print, using the skills honed in its very own printers The Smallest Printing Company.
KK Outlet says, “Issue four is a riot of colour and beautiful visuals all lovingly crafted through various printing processes.
“The exhibition promises to be an exuberant physical embodiment of this printed masterpiece…”
Gratuitous Type Issue 4: Peep Show runs from 3 – 31 October at KK Outlet, 42 Hoxton Square, London N1 6PB
