Designer Linda Walsøe, co-founder of Wik and Walsøe, has long been fascinated by tradition, something which is reflected in the studios aim to design products that resonate with people by imbuing a lasting sentimental value.
Small and almost imperceptible changes can gradually nudge established traditions towards the future. These changes although hardly noticeable are essential to preserve traditional crafts for future generations.
Through the Contemporary Traditions show, Walsøe has turned the design studio into an exciting artistic universe built around a maternal table, which has created smaller tables – a metaphor for new life.
The tables appear to multiply, and as such, tell us something about our heritage, the basis on which tradition is built. Linda Walsøe explores and challenges the immovable element of tradition, while at the same time illustrates how we must change and adapt in order to make them relevant in our time.
The Norwegian design studio Wik & Walsøe was established in 2006. In only a few short years it managed to make its mark as a distinctive voice within fine porcelain and glass production. Wik & Walsøe is now a major brand in the Norwegian and Scandinavian market, and its products are sold in selected stores internationally. Wik & Walsøe aims to design products that resonate with people, and have lasting sentimental value. In 2013 Wik & Walsøe was awarded the Female Entrepreneur of the year prize by Innovation Norway.
