JMD creates Sony centre

New York group James Mansour Design and Pentagram Design in San Francisco have developed Metreon, an experimental entertainment format due to be launched in California by Sony Entertainment.

The first outlet, located in San Francisco, will go live at the end of April, with an identity created by Pentagram.

It will include a Sony Style retail store, created by JMD, plus a Microsoft store and a children’s area named Where the Wild Kids Are.

‘We wanted to create an alternative to the Disney theme parks, and to invent new virtual realities, new ways to be entertained,’ says JMD founder James Mansour.

A second outlet will open in Berlin in 2000 with a third proposed for Tokyo.
