Wayne Hemingway’s Vintage at Goodwood festival takes inspiration from the 1940s to today. Which period inspires you, and why?
The mid- to late 19th century. The level of detail and craftsmanship then is really impressive, particularly in the decorative elements and typography used in books and posters, and the illustration was incredible – particularly Pierre-Joseph Redout’s béotanical illustrations, or Nicolas Henri Jacob’s work for the Atlas of Anatomy, which has 726 hand-coloured, life-sized lithographs which took 20 years to do. It’s dark stuff, but beautifully done.
