I am just reading Voxpop (DW 10 August). In last week’s Hot Topic on my website I addressed your excellent review of Chiho Aoshima’s City Glow, Mountain Whisper (pictured) and also briefly the pull of book cover design. Like Michael Wolff, I almost bought ‘A short history of tractors in Ukrainian’ because of the brilliant cover.

It was the combination of the title and the design that got me drawn in to Waterstones’ window display at Islington Green in north London. The only thing to stop me was the thought of the many books at home waiting to be read.

Finally, on the note of beach reading, that is where I was hoping to be reading the copy of Design Week – on the beach in Sweden.

Instead, a cancelled flight in the early hours of yesterday morning will keep me in London until Sunday.
