Pocknell Studio signs up for Dome project

David Pocknell of Pocknell Studio is acting as consultant designer for The Corporation of London, which is sponsoring the Transaction Zone of the Millennium Dome in Greenwich.

The corporation has pledged 6m towards the cost of the zone. Pocknell is filling the client role on the project, meaning that he works with design group Spectrum and Dome organiser the New Millennium Experience Company to represent the corporation’s interests.

“The Corporation of London felt it should have more help. I’m in the middle as it were,” says Pocknell. He has reported on Spectrum’s initial proposals, and work is currently starting on the next stage of development, he adds.

The Transaction Zone is about money, finance and financial services. “By travelling through the zone, you learn how your money works,” says Pocknell.

Additional corporate sponsors to the Millennium Dome include BT, Sky, Manpower, Tesco, Marks & Spencer, BA, BAA and Camelot. The identity of more sponsors will be revealed in the near future, says a spokeswoman for NMEC.

Certain zones, especially the Spirit Zone, which looks at spirituality, have proved difficult to find sponsors for.
