A Quick Draw to warm the House of Illustration

This week the yet-to-open House of Illustration in London begins its ‘housewarming’ events, with Thursday’s Quick Draw evening.

The event is one of many that look to give illustration fans a taster of what the House of Illustration will offer when it opens this summer.

The space, which uses branding by Hat-Trick, is the world’s first dedicated space to showcase illustration, according to its founders.

It will show the work of Quentin Blake – who initiated the project –  as well as artwork by a large selection of other illustrators. There will also be a dedicated education space and a shop.

Thursday’s Quick Draw Live event is hosted by the lovely street press comic Off Life, which showcases the work of contemporary comic artists.

It will see artists including Joe List, Sally Jane Thompson, Lizz Lunney and Murray Somerfield drawing live – as the name suggests – with visitors invited to join in with the doodlings. These will be projected around the House and shared on social media as the evening unfolds.

Off Life will set the themes on the night, so selected artists and amateur illustrators will all be creating work spontaneously, all the while having the opportunity to network and chat to one another.

Those who can’t make it to the space itself can still join in by taking snaps of their own creations and posting them on Twitter with the #QuickDraw hashtag. Organisers will be selecting works Tweeted to them to project onto the House, forming a truly inclusive, interactive event.

As well as drawing, the event will feature music and a shop where visitors can buy the work of the featured illustrators and browse the lovely Off Life comics.

#Quick Draw Live takes place on 24 April from 8:00 – 11:00pm at House of Illustration, 2 Granary Square, King¹s Cross, N1C 4BH
