A whole lot of hootenanny

As a magazine, we should know a few things about publishing. So when Hootenanny, a paper from Lincoln School of Art & Design, landed on our desks the team agreed in collective breath – it was a lovely surprise.

Design Week’s art director, Sam Freeman notes, ‘It is a very accomplished and considered publication printed on newsprint, which provides a refreshing alternative to the stereotypical modes of graduate promotion.’

The publication includes a follow-up interview with Craig Oldham from Manchester-based design group Music. He appeared in the LSAD fund-raising lecture series to help raise money for third-year graphic design students degree shows.

‘We wanted to showcase our course work in a newspaper format so we could send it out to creative consultancy’s and magazines to get noticed,’ says student Ryan Van Kesteren. We think it may have done just that.
