Like the rest of us, this snow monkey looks like he has been putting up with the cold weather for far too long. Photographed by David Yarrow in the Jigokudani mountains in Japan, Grumpy Monkey is on display at the photographer’s latest exhibition which showcases work from his most recent trips to remote landscapes.
Wildlife and nature specialist Yarrow has been getting up close and personal with some of the world’s wildest animals in their natural and often harsh habitats. His ‘action’ photographs, however, are planned down to the smallest detail – in Charge he used a strategically placed remote controlled camera to capture this angry looking rhino in Lewa, northern Kenya.
Though the exhibition focuses on exotic wildlife, Yarrow is primarily recognised for his epic landscape photography.
Susannah Haworth, gallery manager at Eleven, says,‘Yarrow is known for revealing the splendour of the landscape and wildlife which reside in it so this isn’t an entirely new direction for him – more of a continuation of his travels.’
Completely self taught, Yarrow first started working as a sports photographer and at age 20 was sent by The Times to report on the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. He is still known today for his iconic shot of Maradona clutching the world cup after the final in Mexico City.
