‘Wired transport’, ‘collaborating with frenemies’, ‘the internet of things’. These are just some of the discussions that will be taking place at this year’s third annual Product Design & Innovation conference in London.

Moving this year to a new venue at the Oval Cricket Ground, the conference takes place next week and will aim to ‘explore how industrial design and innovation can help to kick-start sluggish Western economies’.

The headline speaker will be Priestman Goode’s Paul Priestman, who will present his ‘Wired transport’ concepts for connected planes, trains and automobiles.

Other speakers will include Cisco IBSG director of customer experience Clive Grinyer – looking at ‘System thinking and collaborating with frenemies’ – and Dee Cooper, former product and services director at Virgin Atlantic and now creative director at Decide.

Meanwhile one of the hottest topics is likely to be the session on The Internet of Things: Designing Connected Objects – where speakers will include ChauhanStudio founder Tej Chauhan.

Conference chairman Kevin McCullagh says, ‘As traditional notions of product design stretch at the seams, this conference is proving an invaluable opportunity for the profession to regroup, step back and review emerging areas of practice.’

The Product Design & Innovation Conference 2013 runs from 15-16 May at the Oval Cricket Ground, London SE11. For more information and tickets, visit www.pdesigni.com.
