Paper, by Ludwig Rensch

By questioning the design of the common printer and starting from scratch, product designer Ludwig Rensch created a new mobile incarnation of this common office and household item for his diploma thesis.

The ‘Paper’ printer resembles a briefcase and uses rolled up paper that feeds through the machine as needed. The compact printer can perform tasks such as printing, scanning and copying.

The user interface was designed following the Pareto principle, which states that 80% of the time, only 20% of a device’s features are used. Rensch defined a printer’s key functions, analysed the required procedures and simplified them to create a functional, aesthetically pleasing and minimalistic product.
