Wolfgang Buttress has been commissioned to create an installation for St Mary’s Church in Wirksworth, to coincide with this year’s Wirksworth Festival.

Drawing on the behaviour of the domestic bee population, Buttress will present BEAM as a continuation and companion piece to The Hive, currently on display at Kew Gardens in London.

Featuring a mirrored totem, the installation will project a honeycomb pattern onto the ceiling of the church. Audio from musical collective BE, featuring a chorus of bees, will also accompany the installation.

Wirksworth Festival will run from 9 to 25 September.
