Young bloods need placements to break into industry

The recent D&AD New Blood Show was an inspiration.

The recent D&AD New Blood Show was an inspiration. Judging by the standard of the graduates being showcased at the event, the UK design and creative sectors should be getting excited by the diversity and talent coming through in the next generation.

Given the shortage of suitable work placements on offer to enable the ‘new blood’ to cut their teeth in today’s industry, it was also very pleasing to see so many leading design consultancy creative directors giving up their time to offer students advice and guidance.

Perhaps more employers can take a leaf out of their book by investing their knowledge and expertise in the rising stars of tomorrow through work placements.

Industry support is exactly what is needed to give less experienced designers and creatives the break that they need and equip them with the skills – both soft and hard – that will ensure they enjoy a long and successful career in this industry.
